Each year the Biology Department uses funds provided by alumni, faculty members, and other donors to support students through departmental scholarships. These scholarships are awarded competitively based mainly on academic achievements. Eligibility varies depending on the particular award. The number of awards given each year is dependent upon funding. You can download the Biology Scholarship Application form (Adobe pdf file). Fill out the form and submit to Room 221 Temple Hall by May 15.

Scholarship donations are needed and are greatly appreciated! If you wish to pledge support, please contact the Biology Department or the Missouri State Foundation. An online pledge form is also available.
Biology students are also eligible to apply for a variety of other scholarships and financial aid programs through Missouri State Financial Aid.

Awards and Eligibility
Carla Hinton Memorial Biology Scholarship ($500)
Biology major, enrolled in at least 12 hours. If sophomore or higher, must have GPA of 3.0 or higher in Biology. Financial need is considered, therefore student must have the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at the MSU Financial Aid office.
Biology Alumni Scholarship ($500)
Biology major with 30 or more hours of college credit, including at least 8 hours in Biology. Overall GPA at least 3.0.
Biology Education Scholarship ($500)
Biology/Education major with 60 or more hours of college credit, including at least 8 hours in Biology. Overall GPA at least 3.0.
Tom A. Stombaugh Pre-Medical Scholarship ($500)
Biology major with 60 or more hours of college credit, including at least 15 hours in Biology, including BIO 235. Overall GPA at least 3.0. Must be planning a medical career.
Other Pre-medical Scholarships (April 2 deadline)
Immunotoxicology Scholarship ($1,000)
Biology major with interest in immunology or toxicology, with 60 or more hours of college credit, overall GPA of at least 3.5, and a minimum of 12 hours completed in Biology. This award is available to Biology and Chemistry students in alternate years. Applicant must be nominated by a faculty member of the Department of Biology (please contact Dr. John Havel if you wish to be nominated).
Biology Wildlife Scholarship ($500)
Biology major with 60 or more hours of college credit, including at least 8 hours in Biology. Overall GPA at least 3.0. Must be planning a career in fisheries or wildlife conservation or research.
Quail Forever Gateway Chapter #1 Scholarship ($2500)
A Senior or Graduate Student with a major in a department in CNAS who plans to pursue a career in Wildlife Conservation and Management. Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must supply evidence of upland game hunting experience (e.g. hunting journal, hunting license, or hunt-club membership). Awardees expected to attend Quail Forever Chapter #1 Banquet to receive award in person.
Biology Freshman Scholarships ($200)
Freshman Biology major.
How to apply
Applications are due May 15 for Biology Scholarships (April 2 for other premed scholarships). Download and fill out the Biology Scholarship Application. These are also available in the Biology Office (TEM 221). Be sure that you include all of the information requested. The application requires an essay describing your academic goals and career plans. Return your completed application to the Biology Office, 221 Temple Hall.
Previous recipients may reapply. Winners will be announced on this website. Awards are contingent upon enrollment for the Fall semester.
