Build a foundation for med school

Biology is, by far, the most common undergraduate major for medical students nationwide.

By pursuing a biology major, you easily meet course requirements for admission to medical schools.

Why take pre-medicine in Missouri State's biology department?

  • Prepare for the MCAT - A degree in biology  will equip you with the knowledge to excel on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). A portion of the test covers biological and biochemical topics.
  • Connect biology with your medical interests - Take courses in genetics, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, anatomy and physiology. In a recent questionnaire, medical students listed nine undergraduate courses that were most important in the preparation for medical school — six were biology courses!
  • Choose from a variety of occupations - If you decide that a medical career isn't right for you, there are still many other career possibilities that you can consider.
