Admission and Program Requirements
Become a biology major
Want to major in biology at Missouri State? Here are the steps and requirements you need to complete.
Your first steps: Declare your major
There are no formal admission requirements for the biology major. Just be admitted
to Missouri State and declare your major.

                        - Become a Bear: Apply to Missouri State. (If you’re not already a current student.)
 - Before completing 60 credit hours, contact the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to declare or change your major to biology.

After you declare: Choose your degree and complete the program requirements
As a biology major, you'll pick a degree that fits your academic and career goals.
- The non-comprehensive degree (BA or BS) is a great choice if you plan to pursue a minor, second major or pre-health program.
 - The comprehensive degree (BS) is the way to go if you prefer a deeper focus in biology. This path lets you
pick an option area and does not require a minor or second major.

- Option areas are:

- Environmental Biology and Evolution
 - Microbiology and Biotechnology
 - Pre-Teacher Education
 - Wildlife and Fisheries Biology

 - Option areas are:

Check with your advisor to determine which degree type is best for you.
